Random News: June 6, 2022

DISCLAIMER: Zak's Random News is very random and doesn't cover many things, and not everything may be accurate, because I'm just some guy. Go find a real news source.

Good morning. It’s June 6, 2022, and it’s a Monday, and it’s my birthday. Various whatever coming at ya…

  • I was born on this day in 1969. That means I’m (checks watch) old.
  • At the moment, my ancient age is compounded by having just wrapped up a trade show, and still deciding if I’m a) just exhausted from the show and the weeks of preparation for it, b) coming down with some mix of COVID, a cold, or some other communicable disease, or c) a combination of all of the above. I’m hoping for A, obviously.
  • Gonna take a COVID test later today just to be sure. As mentioned many times, I’m fully vaccinated and got a booster in December and another just last month, so other than sealing myself in a plastic bubble, I did all I could to not get sick and still be a productive member of society.
  • There were no less than a dozen mass shootings over the weekend.
  • I sometimes hear the argument, “Gun laws won’t help because criminals don’t obey laws.” Well, let’s eliminate all laws then. Murder is legal. Rape is legal. Fraud is legal. Kidnapping is legal. Criminals don’t obey laws, so why have them?
  • Here’s a little contrast between the USA and the UK. Prime Minister Boris Johnson is facing a no-confidence vote today that could remove him from power. Why? He held parties that flaunted the COVID restrictions imposed on other citizens. Leaders should be held to the highest standards, and if our politicians could be kicked out on their asses in the same way, they’d probably shape up mighty quick.
  • There’s still a war in Ukraine.
  • Women’s rights are still being trampled.
  • Don’t get distracted.
  • From the sports desk, the Dubs are locked up 1-1 with the Celtics. Game 3 is Wednesday night in Boston.
  • In other sports news, five members of MLB’s Tampa Bay Rays have refused to wear a gay pride patch because Jesus said not to. Important note: Jesus never said shit about homosexuality.
  • Today in history… 1859: Queensland separates from New South Wales. 1892: Chicago’s “L” rail system begins operation. 1925: the Chrysler Corporation is founded. 1944: Operation Overlord — better known as D-Day — happens when 160,000 Allied troops storm the beach at Normandy, France.
  • June 6 is the birthday of American revolution soldier Nathan Hale (1755), singer Levi Stubbs (1936), bass player Tony Levin (1946), “Freddy Kruger” actor Robert Englund (1947), actor Harvey Fierstein (1954), guitarist Steve Vai (1960), and singer-songwriter Zak Claxton (1969).

I’m mostly chilling today and recovering from my show… first day mostly off work in weeks. Gonna test for COVID this evening. If this list is filled with fun COVID facts tomorrow, you’ll know why. Try and make the world better today, but you can do it one small step at a time. Seriously, you can.
