Random News: September 15, 2022

DISCLAIMER: Zak's Random News is very random and doesn't cover many things, and not everything may be accurate, because I'm just some guy. Go find a real news source.

Good morning. It’s September 15, 2022, and it’s a Thursday for some reason. Here’s something, I suppose…

  • Observation: most luxurious things in life aren’t worth the exorbitant price you have to pay, but good coffee is so worthwhile. It truly is.
  • It seems as though President Biden has helped avert what would have been a devastating rail strike with a tentative labor agreement at the last minute after marathon talks.
  • Way to go Joe!
  • It seems as though wannabe fascist dickhead Ron DeSantis forced dozens of immigrants onto a plane and flew them to Martha’s Vineyard, MA as some kind of joke, paid for by the Florida taxpayers. Nice guy, huh?
  • A near-total abortion ban has now gone into effect in Indiana, making it the third state to do so after the repeal of Roe v Wade and the removal of women’s health care and reproductive rights by the GOP-controlled Supreme Court.
  • News has emerged that the FPOTUS’s former chief of Staff Mark Meadows has complied with a subpoena from the DoJ in regard to the actions on January 6 that led to the failed attempted coup.
  • Meadows complying with the DoJ subpoena shows he is playing ball with federal investigators.
  • You may recall that the January 6 Select Committee handed its first batch of findings off to the DoJ this summer.
  • The DoJ has since revealed it is criminally investigating false statements, conspiracy and obstruction committed by the Trump administration surrounding January 6.
  • This is separate and in addition to the criminal investigations into the classified documents that were found stolen and hidden in the FPOTUS’s golf motel.
  • In case you didn’t know: the co-sponsor of Lindsay Graham’s nationwide abortion ban bill is none other than Little Marco Rubio (R-FL). Because of course it is.
  • Vote these women-hating bastards out ASAP. Rubio leads his opponent Val Demings by only a couple of points in the polls. Florida people, this is a winnable race if you kick ass and get out the vote for Demings!
  • On a related note, Mike Pence said yesterday that whoever is the next GOP president, that person will back a nationwide abortion ban. Thanks for the heads-up, Mike.
  • From the Sports Desk… Roger Federer is retiring from professional tennis at age 41. He’s had a bunch of knee operations. It’s time. Federer won 20 Grand Slam titles and finished five seasons ranked No. 1 in the world.
  • In health news… hey you people having sex. What the fuck? STD rates shot up insanely in 2021. Syphillis jumped 26%, the biggest increase in 70 years. Gonorrhea and chlamydia both increased as well.
  • Like, how did that even happen? Is putting on a condom an infringement on your “freedom”, like wearing a mask to the grocery store? Between your COVID and your STDs, here’s to your dick not falling off, I guess.
  • And now, The Weather: “Sorority” by Tobacco.
  • Today in history… King Philip II of Spain sends an "Invincible Armada” to overthrow Queen Elizabeth I of England and gets crushed in the English Channel (1588). The United States "Department of Foreign Affairs” is renamed the Department of State (1789). Napoleon reaches the Kremlin in Moscow (1812). The Liverpool to Manchester railway line opens (1830). HMS Beagle, with Charles Darwin aboard, reaches the Galápagos Islands (1835). Japan defeats Qing dynasty China in the Battle of Pyongyang (1894). Tanks are used for the first time in battle, at the Battle of the Somme in WWI (1916). Nazi Germany adopts a new national flag bearing the swastika (1935). Marilyn Monroe's iconic skirt scene is shot during filming for ‘The Seven Year Itch’ (1954). U.S. President Lyndon B. Johnson, responding to a sniper attack at the University of Texas at Austin, writes a letter to Congress urging the enactment of gun control legislation (1967). Muhammad Ali outpoints Leon Spinks in a rematch to become the first boxer to win the world heavyweight title three times (1978). The Senate Judiciary Committee unanimously approves Sandra Day O'Connor to become the first female justice of the Supreme Court of the United States (1981). The Summer Olympics are opened in Sydney, Australia (2000).
  • September 15 is the birthday of explorer Marco Polo (1254), dentist/educator/inventor George Franklin Grant (1846), president William Howard Taft (1857), car designer/businessman Ettore Bugatti (1881), writer Agatha Christie (1890), musician Roy Acuff (1903), actress Fay Wray (1907), criminal and attorney general John N. Mitchell (1913), comedian Nipsey Russell (1918), musician Cannonball Adderley (1928), NFL player/actor Merlin Olsen (1940), actor Tommy Lee Jones (1946), NFL coach Pete Carroll (1951), NFL player Dan Marino (1961), and Prince Harry, Duke of Sussex (1984).

Well, I have so much shit to do, it’s actually sad. I mean, it is and it isn’t; I could be sitting here waiting for my phone to ring or desperately calling people to seek out new clients so I could pay my rent. I am grateful to have a successful business. I am. But I am also up to my eyeballs in work and there’s no end in sight for the short term. As the statement I can’t stand goes, no way through it but to do it. Wish me luck, and enjoy your day.
