Random News: October 10, 2022

DISCLAIMER: Zak's Random News is very random and doesn't cover many things, and not everything may be accurate, because I'm just some guy. Go find a real news source.

Good morning. It’s October 10, 2022, and it’s a Monday. Here’s whatever I’m thinking about while typing these very words…

  • Happy Indigenous People’s Day.
  • In somewhat local news, members of the LA City Council (including the president, Nury Martinez) were caught on tape having an extraordinarily racist conversation. Like, amazingly and blatantly racist. I heard the recordings.
  • I won’t repeat that shit, but I’d have to say that all 3-4 of them on that tape should highly consider resigning, like, now.
  • Putin is still mad about his bridge being blown up. Unfortunately, this manifested itself in multiple missile attacks on Ukraine cities, including major strikes in Kyiv.
  • These missile attacks were aimed at civilian population centers during rush hour. Putin stated that during a televised address.
  • Purposeful attacks on civilians is not permitted in war regulations. Putin needs to be held personally responsible for this.
  • "George H.W. Bush took millions of documents to a former bowling alley and a former Chinese restaurant where they combined them. So they're in a bowling alley slash Chinese restaurant.” - Donald John Trump, criminal suspect
  • Last month’s stunt of Florida governor Ron DeSantis to lure undocumented asylum-seeking immigrants from Texas to Massachusetts may have crossed some specific legal lines.
  • Florida’s state program was intended to “relocate out of the state of Florida foreign nationals who are not lawfully present in the United States.”
  • However, new documents show that the state program did not mention the potential of transporting migrants from Texas (who were never in Florida).
  • Records also show that Florida paid a charter airline company $615,000 for the September flights to Martha's Vineyard. That equals to about $12,300 for each of the 50 migrants on board the two flights.
  • Hmm. Florida, where is your tax money really going?
  • Thousands of people marched on Washington, D.C. on Saturday, demanding that their rights to safe and legal abortion be respected.
  • This country would have gone to hell long ago if not for the women. I’m convinced of this.
  • November 8 will be the first post-Roe election, and the first since 1972 that women have had to beg the government for the right to do as they choose with their own bodies. I really hope you’re planing to vote… if not for your own sake, then that of your sisters, wives, aunts, granddaughters, nieces, colleagues and friends.
  • And now, The Weather: “Where The Water Clears The Illusion” by Melody’s Echo Chamber.
  • North Korea is still flinging missiles around. Their threats of nuclear attacks are focused on South Korea, Japan, and the USA.
  • From the Sports Desk… we now have the divisional series ready for MLB playoffs. In the American League, it’s the Astros (1) versus the Mariners (5) and the Yankees (2) versus the Guardians (3). The National League has the Dodgers (1) versus the Padres (5) and the Braves (2) versus the Phillies (6).
  • The Sports Desk would also like to state that the Sports Desk is not very confident that his Las Vegas Raiders have a chance of beating the Kansas City Chiefs tonight on Monday Night Football… but it would be great if it somehow happened.
  • Couple of polls.
  • Wisconsin Senate: Ron Johnson (R-inc) 50% (+1), Mandela Barnes (D) 49% (YouGov)
  • Wisconsin Governor: Tim Michels (R) 50%, Tony Evers (D-inc) 50% (YouGov)
  • Oklahoma Governor: Hofmeister (D) 47% (+4), Stitt (R-inc) 43% (Sooner Poll)
  • NM-02: Gabe Vasquez (D) 45% (+2), Yvette Herrell (R-inc) 43% (GSG)
  • Please vote. Your vote matters. YOU matter.
  • Today in history… Sten Sture the Elder, the Regent of Sweden, with the help of farmers and miners, repels an attack by King Christian I of Denmark (1471). The crew of Christopher Columbus's ship, the Santa Maria, attempt a mutiny (1492). Triton, the largest moon of the planet Neptune, is discovered by English astronomer William Lassell (1846). U.S. President Woodrow Wilson triggers the explosion of the Gamboa Dike, completing major construction on the Panama Canal (1913). U.S. President Dwight D. Eisenhower apologizes to Ghanaian finance minister Komla Agbeli Gbedemah after he is refused service in a Delaware restaurant (1957). The Partial Nuclear Test Ban Treaty comes into effect (1963). U.S. Vice President Spiro Agnew resigns after being charged with evasion of federal income tax (1973).
  • October 10 is the birthday of Japan emperor Saga (786), organist Johann Nicolaus Bach (1669), physicist Henry Cavendish (1731), composer Giuseppe Verdi (1813), actress Helen Hayes (1900), artist Alberto Giacometti (1901), pianist Thelonious Monk (1917), filmmaker Ed Wood (1924), playwright Harold Pinter (1930), singer-songwriter John Prine (1946), actor Ben Vereen (1946), musician Midge Are (1953), singer David Lee Roth (1954), singer Tanya Tucker (1958), actress Julia Sweeney (1959), singer Crystal Waters (!964), politician Gavin Newsom (1967), NFL player and fraud suspect Brett Favre (1969), race car driver Dale Earnhardt Jr. (1974), musician Lzzy Hale (1984), MLB player Andrew McCutchen (1986), and NFL player Geno Smith (1990).

Well, I had a pretty good weekend. I did a live music show yesterday afternoon, and it went well. I took care of some things that needed doing, and got some relaxation time in as well. And now we’re here on a Monday. That’s okay; I have Monday things to do too. Enjoy your day.
